Congratulations, Maiko Yamamoto and James Long
Congratulations! Theatre Replacement's Maiko Yamamoto and James Long, both SCA alumni and frequent SCA instructors, have won the 2019 Siminovitch Prize for Theatre, the first time it's been awarded to a collaborative group for "director."
Siminovitch Prize for Theatre, the largest theatre prize in Canada, awards $100,000 to the recipients, $25,000 of which was given to a "Protégé" of the recipients' choice. For their prize, Yamamoto and Long choose fellow SCA alumni and current artist-in-residence at Theatre Replacement, Conor Wylie, who's a "Vancouver-based director, performer, writer, creator, and a member of A Wake of Vultures, an ongoing and dedicated interdisciplinary collaboration with (SCA alumni) Nancy Tam and Daniel O’Shea."
Read great press about the award on the Vancouver Courier and the Georgia Straight, and make sure to read Yamamoto and Long's moving and inspiring acceptance speech on the Siminovitch Prize for Theatre's site HERE.
Theatre Replacement's popular, annual East Van Panto is presenting Pinocchio at the York Theatre (639 Commercial Drive) from November 20, 2019 – January 5, 2020, presented by The Cultch. Buy tickets HERE.
