Machine learning as a tool for astrophysics

The number of machine learning papers in astronomy and astrophysics have dramatically increased in the last few years. After reviewing astrophysical applications and methods, I will present results from my own work on stellar populations in galaxies. The focus will be mostly pedagogical with the aim of demonstrating the power and applicability of machine learning methods.
