Even cable cars derail in the snow. On Madison
St. perhaps between Second and Third Avenues, but things have
changed too much to be certain. Could be the winter of 1918, but
I think it is later than that. Today route 12 descends this hill.
I'm sure that a trolley would not do any better than the cable
