This file covers what I call the 'Third Period', from roughly 1963 to 1972.
Seattle Transit System
Twin Coach 608 in its third paint scheme. Here it is on First Ave. turning left onto Pike St. on route 13 19th Ave. This route is now route 12. It is coming from the West Queen Anne terminus of route 2. Photographer unknown. Date unknown. Courtesy of Tom's Trolley Bus Pictures and the Steve Scalzo collection.
An unidentified Twin Coach on Pike St. at 3rd Ave. on what appears to be route 9 Broadway. Before the one-way scheme of 1956, the Broadway trolleys ran up 2nd Ave. then turned onto Pine St. Photographer unknown. 1973. Courtesy of Tom's Trolley Bus Pictures and the Steve Scalzo collection.
Trolleys lined up at Jefferson Station (garage). The on on the far left, the green on on the far right and one behind are Pullman Standards. Twin Coaches are visible le in this photo too. Photographer unknown. 1973. Courtesy of Tom's Trolley Bus Pictures and the Steve Scalzo collection.
Twin Coach 608 on Route 1 Kinnear heading downtown and then out to the Kinnear terminus. Photographer unknown. 1973. Courtesy of Tom's Trolley Bus Pictures and the Steve Scalzo collection.
There is something fishy about this photo. Although Twin Coach 643 is signed for 15 Admiral Way, this cannot be the case. The number, 643, was the result of renumbering the trolleys after 1963, when the system was decimated. Route 15 was one of the dieselized routes. This photo was probably taken by a fan when the trolley was laying over or it was on a fan trip. Photographer unknown. 1963 - 1978.
Pullman-Standard 977 on route 4 East Queen Anne just starting up the Blaine St. grade, having turned left from Queen Anne Ave. N. This is probably one of the last photos of a STS trolley on route 4 since route 4 and with route 3 were dieselized circa 1970. Photographer unknown. 9 MR 1968.
Twin Coach 633 westbound on S. Jackson St. It is about to turn right onto 4th Ave. S. Photo by Paul Weyrich. 1965.
Twin Coach 639 and an unidentified Twin Coach west bound on Pine St. at the Monorail station. The monorail station has since been removed from here and now terminates just north of Pine St. Photo by Paul Weyrich. 1965.
Twin Coach 629 heading west on Pine St. at 3rd Ave. passing by Zales. A McDonalds is now on this site. The trolley will turn left onto 2nd Ave. and turn left again onto Pike St. where it will lay over. If I am not mistaken, the 9 Broadway trolleys went to Main St. during the rush hours. At one time all No. 9 trolleys went to Main St. both way on 2nd Ave. before 2nd Ave. became a one-way street. Photo by Paul Weyrich. 1965.
