Professor Emeritus
Lenard J. Cohen is a co-founder of the School for International Studies at Simon Fraser University, and since 2009, Professor Emeritus. His interests include comparative political development with a special emphasis on the East European, Balkan and Eurasian regions. His research and teaching have focused on issues relating to political democratization, state-building and nation-building, and the challenges facing post-conflict environments and failing states.

Research Interests: Political economy of development; Indian politics; political participation and civil society in India; social policy in India and other ‘emerging economies’; institutional theories; agrarian change (especially in South India)

Research Interests: The investigation of factors affecting the party composition, policy outputs, and survival records of coalition governments in parliamentary democracies. The investigation of the nature of voter preferences and their connection to the policies of political parties and governments in liberal democracies.
