SCL Hub & Conference Themes

The SCL Hub’s mission is to drive place-based innovation and collaboration in sustainable cities and landscapes through education, research, and policy to create resilient, equitable, and vibrant communities.

Living with Water across the Pacific Rim:  Water underpins socio-economic growth, energy and food production, ecosystem health, and human survival, while also serving as the critical nexus for climate change adaptation, exemplifying the cross-scalar and interconnected social, ecological and economic dimensions of sustainability. Climate change projections across the Pacific Rim show that many communities will be facing the impacts of sea-level rise, as well as increased flood scale and frequency. In some locations, there will also be increased periods of drought. These events and hazards will lead to risks for residents, critical infrastructures, biodiversity, food and water security, cultural practices, among other elements of our cities and landscapes. We require effective design, tools, frameworks, and collaborative approaches to re-imagine how we live with (or without) water.
