Simon Fraser University (SFU) and the Administrative and Professional Staff Association (APSA) have been engaged in negotiations around salary increases and other generally available economic benefits. A series of meetings have been scheduled within a thirty-day window, which started on April 12, 2021 with negotiations slated to conclude by today (May 12, 2021).

As a publicly funded university, SFU is required to negotiate under the 2019 Sustainable Services Negotiating Mandate (Mandate) set forth by the Public Sector Employer’s Council (PSEC). The University has tabled a proposal consisting of general wage increases and improvements to benefits that are within this Mandate, as we have done with all other employee groups on campus.

While the Parties have made significant progress to date, we have mutually agreed to engage the assistance of a Mediator at this time to facilitate the conclusion of the outstanding items. To this end, the Parties have selected Mediator Jim Dorsey and the University is optimistic that an agreement will be reached with Mr. Dorsey’s assistance.

The University is committed to negotiating fair wage increases and benefit improvements for our APSA employees consistent with the 2019 Sustainable Services Negotiating Mandate. Once an agreement is in place, it will be effective July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2022.
