- Special Graduate Entrance Scholarship (SGES)
- President's Ph.D. Research Stipends (PRS)
- Private Scholarships Administered by the University
The availability of all awards is contingent on the availability of funding and the terms of reference are subject to change without notice. In addition to these awards, there are also a large number of other awards, funded internally or through private donations, ranging in value up to about $10,000. Please consult the Graduate Awards Guide or the departmental graduate program chair for information on awards relevant to particular graduate programs.
- Special Graduate Entrance Scholarship (SGES)
It is a one-year award valued between $3,000 and $7,000, intended primarily as a means of recruiting to this University outstanding applicants who are considering enrolling at other institutions. This award is not subject to application by the student; the department nominates the student for an award of a specific amount and the Dean of Graduate Studies adjudicates the award on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee. Departmental nominations may be submitted to the Dean of Graduate Studies, by memorandum, at any time.
- President's Ph.D. Research Stipends (PRS)
It is a one-semester award valued at $6,000. To be eligible to hold a PRS, a person must be registered as a full-time regular student in good standing in the Ph.D. program at Simon Fraser University and must have completed all departmental and University requirements for the degree (e.g., courses, comprehensive or qualifying examinations), except the thesis. Application deadline is the end of the second month of the semester preceding the semester of desired tenure. This award goes to the grad program chair in the department of enrollment.
- Private Scholarships Administered by the University
There are a number of smaller awards available to graduate students in specific fields of study. Details can be found in the SFU Calendar listing of Awards and Financial Aid for Graduate Students and the online Awards Database. Deadline dates for these awards may vary, but most have deadlines of September 30, January 30, and May 30.
