This is identified as an important factor in keeping farming costs down.  Soil texture is also a constraint because coarse soils are not conducive to plant growth.  They prevent plants from taking root and plants cannot penetrate the clasts to access nutrients.  Success would best come with planting in suitable soil areas.

Methodology

• To identify suitable soils I first reprojected "soiltex" to a more suitable projection.  I called it "soiltex2".
• I used the edit function to isolate categories of suitable soil texture calling them "soilsuitability".
• I used ASSIGN module on "soiltex2" to produce "soiltex2suitabilitybool".   This shows all suitable soil types on the continent.
