Precipitation

     This is a critical factor in the success of an agribusiness.  Even some canadian wheat farmers have gone bankrupt due to inclement seasons of too much rain, or too little.  The African continent experiences quite a range of annual precipitation, varying from 0 to over 3000 millimeters.  As such it is important to identify and isolate those areas which are appropriate for possible wheat plantation.

Methodology

• I used the PROJECT module on "afprcann" to get a more suitable projection.  I called it "afprcann2".
• I then used the RECLASS module on "afprcann2" to get all numbers higher than 0.  (After projecting it I found a few negative values).  I then called it "afprcann2reclass".
• I then used the FUZZY module (sinusoidal monotonically increasing).  I called it "afprcann2fuzz".  I set this at minimum 400mm and a maximum 2500mm.  I chose the sinusoidal monotonically increasing function because plant growth is stimulated with increased precipitation until approximately 2500mm.
