ScotDep Methodology

As mentioned earlier, all four factors in the SCOTDEP index are drawn directly from the Jarman index’s eight factors. The factors in the SCOTDEP are not subject to any manipulation beyond a simple standardization against the average value. It was likely for both indices to yield somewhat similar results. After having produced the final index output for the Jarman and the SCOTDEP; the two indexes were plotted in a scatter plot at the CT and DA level to explore the relationship between the two indexes.

In comparison, the stronger relationship was found within the CT units. We drew our conclusion to infer the effectiveness of both indices to agree at a medium scale, with a higher level of variability at a finer scale.
