Vancouver Parks Data

The Vancouver Parks Data is a shapefile extracted from the Open Data Catalogue for the City of Vancouver. It contains all the parks located within Vancouver. This data was used in our "Proximity to Green Space" map, "Assessment of Riskey Play" map, and our "Pediatric Walkability Index"

Public Schools Data

The Public Schools Data is a shapefile extracted from the Open Data Catalogue for the City of Vancouver. It contains all the public schools located within Vancouver. This data was used in our "Proximity to Green Space" map and "Assessment of Riskey Play" map.

Physical Park Audits

Collection of the physical park audits data involved assessing in person the playability of a park from our random sample and deriving a park score from that visit. Those scores were used to create the "Assesment of Risky Play" map.

Digital Park Audits

Collection of the digital park audits data involved an online assessment of the playability of a park from our random sample. We used the web based applications Google Streetview and Google Earth to derive digital park score. Those scores were used to create the "Assesment of Risky Play" map.

The landuse data was extracted from the Open Catalogue for the City of Vancouver. This data was used to develop the "Pediatric Walkability Index".

The Intersection data was extracted from OpenDataBC. This data was used to develop the "Pediatric Walkability Index".

Digital Elevataion Model (DEM) of Vancouver

The DEM of Vancouver was extracted from OpenDataBC. The DEM was put into ArcMap in order to calculate degree of slope to be used in the "Pediatric Walkability Index".

The Road Speed data was extracted from OpenDataBC. This data was used to develop the "Pediatric Walkability Index".

The Crime data was extracted from the Open Catalogue for the City of Vancouver. It was converted into point files and then into a point density map in ArcMap and then used to develop the "Safety Index".

The Graffiti data was extracted from the Open Catalogue for the City of Vancouver. This point file was converted into a point density map in ArcMap and then used to develop the "Safety Index"

Canadian Census Data: 2011

The 2011 census data was extracted from BcStats Open Census Data. This data was used to create our The Vancouver Area Neighbourhood Deprivation Index (VANDIX). The following variables were used in creating the "Socioeconomic Index" map.

• Average Income
• Unemployment Rate
• Total Population by highest level of schooling
• Total Population without high school certificate
• Total Population with university degree or diploma
• Total lone-parent families
• Total no. of census families by family structure
• Total owners of occupied private dwellings
• Total no. of occupied private dwellings
