Correlation

to VANDIX

To evaluate the project phenomenon to socioeconomic status, our team explored the use of Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) linear regression. OLS linear regression is a common method of modeling a dependent variable in relation to a set of explanatory variables.

The injury data were once again acting as surrogate for oral cancer data. They were spatially joined to dissemination areas (DA) within the province resulting a sum of injury counts for each DA. The counts were used as the dependent variable and the VANDIX was used as the explanatory variable. The output of this tool generated statistics such as the p-value, the t-statistic and R squared (coefficient of determination) which could be used to assess the relationship of patient counts to SES.
