Team of GIS students develop GeoApp for the 2022 AppChallenge competition
Three undergraduate GIS students - Xilin Wan, Lan Zhao and Lingxuan Fan, dedicated a full week of their Spring 2022 term to develop a GeoApp for entry into the 2022 Esri Canada AppChallenge competition. The students represented the SFU Esri Canada Centre of Excellence (ECCE) in GIS that is managed within the Geography Department.
The developed GeoApp was motivated by the catastrophic BC flood event of 2021, and focused on flood analysis in the City of Abbotsford, British Columbia.
Their work was recognized by being placed in the top 10 of 25 university teams across Canada, and is especially noteworthy since the competition also contained teams of GIS graduate students. Xilin, Lan and Lingxuan gained hands-on experience in GIS project planning and implementation with strict deadlines, working closely with industry partners, and developing professional network connections with peers across Canada.
Congratulations Xilin, Lan and Lingxuan on a job well done!
