Lyana has experience leading and developing Indigenous programs and projects for community-based organizations and post-secondary institutions, including the University of Victoria, University of British Columbia, University of Washington and Simon Fraser University. She also brings unique experience working for Indigenous non-profit social service agencies in Victoria and Vancouver. Lyana has led curriculum development for Indigenous content within the Faculty of Medicine at UBC, managed education programs, and promoted knowledge translation of Indigenous research findings to health care providers and health sciences students. She has worked with a national Indigenous education organization to evaluate several projects connected to Indigenous health and education, and most recently worked for the City of Vancouver helping to design and deliver community engagement for a municipal poverty reduction strategy. She received a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship to pursue a PhD in the School of Community and Regional Planning at UBC where she was the first Indigenous graduate of the PhD program in November 2019.
