Volunteer History Mentors Needed!

Online volunteers are needed to support a new unit for the BC Social Studies 11 curriculum called "Compassionate Canada?"

The unit invites students to investigate the question, "Has Canada become a more compassionate country over the past 100 years?" Students will pursue this question in relation to three strands of evidence relating to Immigration, Rights and Freedoms, and the Social Safety Net.

Students in each participating class will be divided into small groups to examine an array of documentary evidence, which has been collected and digitized by our team. While studying the evidence in our secure on-line forum, each group of students will be assigned a volunteer mentor to offer advice and guidance on how they interpret the evidence they are responsible for. One of these mentors could be you!

Prospective volunteers should:

  • Have studied Canadian history from 1910 onward (ideally, you will have majored in History and studied historical research methods)
  • Be able to commit 20 minutes per day for a two week period
  • Be prepared to submit to a criminal records check
  • Have a relatively new (no more than 4 year old) computer with a fast internet connection
If this sounds like you, please complete the Volunteer Sign-up Form. We would love to work with you!
