ART OR RESEARCH LONG PAPER
This type of submission is best suited for scholarly work and reports on completed research or artworks. Each submission will be carefully reviewed by three independent reviewers and ranked based on quality of presentation, relevance to the community, originality, and importance of the contribution. Submissions in this category can be between 3000-7500 words, including abstract, footnotes, bibliography, author bio(s);
PHOTO ESSAYS
This type of submission is best suited for the dissemination of artistic research and its methodologies, from all arts disciplines. This format allows for text to be woven together with image, audio and video, inviting critical reviews of exhibitions, artist studio visits, artist profiles and experimental content. All images, audio and video elements must be the property of the artist or meet copyright approval and is the responsibility of the author. Submissions in the Photo Essay category can be between 1000-2000 words, including abstract, footnotes, bibliography, author bio(s).
ART OR RESEARCH SHORT PAPERS
This type of submission is best suited for scholarly work and reports on ongoing research or artwork, as well as position papers raising original and provocative theoretical or practical discourses and questions. Each submission will be carefully reviewed by three independent reviewers and ranked based on quality of presentation, relevance to the community, originality, and importance of the contribution. Submissions in this category can be between 1500-3000 words, including abstract, footnotes, bibliography, author bio(s);
ARTWORKS
We accept submissions of individual artworks, including any media, audio and video, to be published online. Please provide a 300-500 word artist statement, a 200 word biography, and a 300-500 word statement that demonstrates how the work fits within the publication theme.
SUBMISSION
The Comparative Media Arts Journal accepts submissions via email: cma_journal@sfu.ca. Submissions are only accepted with respect to calls for papers for upcoming issues.
SUBMISSION FORMAT
All submissions in the Long Paper and Short Paper categories need to be the full length version of the paper, with Chicago style in-text citations, footnotes and bibliography. Submissions must be original and not published in another journal. Plagiarism is considered a serious academic offense and will not be tolerated. Submissions may be based on a piece of work written for a course of study, or you may opt to write an original piece for submission to the journal.
ALL IMAGES
Irrespective of submission type, please include all image files used in your submission in JPEG format at as large a size and as high a resolution (pixels per inch) as possible. Please note that image rights are the responsibility of the author/artist to secure. Please also make sure to include complete image captions. Also, all submissions are published online with a header image. Please feel free to include an image for this purpose with your submission. If none is offered, the CMA Journal reserves the right to supply one.

REVIEW PROCESS
Your submission will be viewed by the CMA Journal's Editorial Committee and two members of the Peer Review Committee to determine whether the subject matter and quality is a good fit for the thematic call.
