Classics
at SFU
Courses in classical civilization at SFU are offered by the Department
of Humanities.
There are regular offerings of Classical Mythology (HUM 102),
both on campus and through Distance Education.
Senior seminars are also regularly offered on the Golden Age of Greece
(HUM 302),
the Latin Humanist Tradition (HUM 303), and Mythology in Context (HUM
332).
Two semesters each of introductory Latin and introductory Ancient Greek
used to be offered in alternating years. Recently there have also been
Special
Topics courses offered in Ancient Greek Law.
Currently there is one full-time classicist, David Mirhady.
Paul Dutton and Andre Gerolymatos (Hellenic Studies Chair) of the History
Department offer occasional courses on classical topics.
Christopher Morrissey has taught courses for SFU in
Classical Mythology, Latin, and Ancient Greek,
and most recently taught Renaissance
Studies.
