Summer 2023 Chemistry Undergraduate Research Presentation Awards
A message from Evon Khor, Chemistry Undergraduate Advisor
Dear All,
I have the pleasure of announcing the following students who have won the Summer 2023 Chemistry Undergraduate Presentation Awards for their work presented on Wednesday, August 9th and Thursday, August 10th, 2023. Monetary prizes in the amount of $250 (or contribution of $500 toward travel and conference expenses) will be awarded to the winners.
- Adlih Britton presented her NSERC USRA work titled "Implication of Cation Characteristics on K2[Pt(SCN)4] Stacking" (supervisor: Dr. Daniel Leznoff)
- Jordanne Burgess presented her CHEM 481 work titled "Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Sulfur-Rich Chelators for Complexation of 197m/g Hg" (supervisor: Dr. Caterina Ramogida)
- William Ho presented his VPR USRA work titled "Harnessing Stereochemically Active Lone Pairs to access Polar Dithiolate Complexes" (supervisor: Dr. Daniel Leznoff)
- Benjamin Ma presented his CHEM 481 work titled "Multifunctional Metallochaperones for Reactivation of Mutant p53 Protein" (supervisor: Dr. Tim Storr)
- Allen Ovcina-Martinez presented his CHEM 481 work titled "Synthesis and Characterization of an Antiferroelectric Ternary Solid Solution System for Energy Storage Applications" (supervisor: Dr. Zuo-Guang Ye)
Honourable mentions also go to past winners, Rebecca Gerber, for her VPR USRA work titled "Developing the Production and Separation of 18F via Neutron Double Knockout: A Potential Low-cost, Cyclotronless Alternative" and to Joshua Yu, for his work titled "The 8 Pi Spectrometer at SFU: The Science and Current Status", both supervised by Dr. Krzysztof Starosta.
