In Memoriam: Eberhard Kiehlmann

The Chemistry Department is mourning the loss of Dr. Eberhard Kiehlmann, who passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

Born in January 1937 in East Germany, Eberhard was a faculty member in Chemistry until his retirement in 2002, however, he remained an active member of the department long after his retirement and participated in events and attended departmental meetings.

A fellow colleague, Cam Oehlschlager, shared the following about Eberhard:

“Eberhard and I had adjacent offices for most of my time at SFU. He was rightfully proud of his mentoring of each new generation of young people in his classes. He devoted significant time to office hour tutorials in support of their efforts to become more educated young adults.”

Eberhard contributed significantly to the growth and development of the Chemistry Department and will be greatly missed.
