Biography

Dr. Eric Derrah is the Chief Science Officer at Dycar Pharmaceuticals, a licenced cannabis producer in Cranbrook, BC. Eric is primarily responsible for developing the company’s extraction process, concentrate products for the recreational cannabis market, and future research program, which will explore advanced extraction techniques and develop detailed cannabinoid and terpene profiles of all biological assets.

Eric obtained his Ph.D. in organometallic chemistry from the University of Victoria in 2009 under the supervision of Dr. Lisa Rosenberg. He spent the next five years in three postdoctoral positions in Europe, most notably at BASF’s Catalysis Research Laboratory (CaRLa) in Heidelberg, Germany, where he investigated ruthenium catalyzed hydroamination reactions for the synthesis of primary amines.

After returning to Canada in 2014, Eric spent several years developing chemical products for the oil and gas industry at Engenium Chemicals in Calgary, AB. As research manager he oversaw the formulation of a wide range of products including high viscosity fracking fluids, flame retardants, and fluorescent tracing fluids, and developed lab- and field-scale testing techniques for polyacrylamide friction reducers.
