November 8th, 2021
As we prepared to return to campus this fall, we announced that we were streamlining our services to be offered from the Document Solutions location on Burnaby Campus. This decision was made after consideration about the cost of our operations during the pandemic and with the consultation of senior academic leadership at Surrey Campus.
However, with staff and faculty returning to in-person work and instruction, we’ve received feedback and been in discussion with members of the community at Surrey Campus who have expressed the continued need for in-person services. As a response, we are implementing a return of Document Solutions core services at the Surrey Campus in our former service location on the mezzanine level.
As of November 15th, we will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 am to 4 pm with a one-hour break from 12 pm to 1 pm for lunch. We are implementing this rollout structure to meet our current available staffing and training resources. We will be increasing our hours to include Tuesdays and Thursdays in early January 2022 as we bring on more staff.
Core services we will be offering at this location will include
Printing and Finishing
CrowdMark Scanning
Coil Binding
Poster Printing (18” x 24”; 24” x 36”)
Please note that turnover time for core services will typically be two days during this initial period with the exception of during the Final Exam period (Dec. 8 to 21). Once we are fully open in 2022, we expect our turnover period to be reduced to one day for most services. After-hours pick-up and drop-off will be facilitated by a combination of dedicated drop boxes and Smart Lockers at the Surrey campus.
Services other than core services such as business cards, postcards, large format signs, decals, specialty media, desktop publishing, and more will be available as well, please contact us for rates and turnover times. To better serve you, we are in the process of reviewing our pricing to make sure we are competitive with market rates for our services.
Additionally, we will be offering tutorials and webinars of our WebCRD system to empower community members to submit their jobs through our online system for ease of service.
In terms of services for students, most printing and scanning can be completed on Multi-Function Devices located across campus with full colour printing up to 11”x17” in size. Posters in select sizes (18” x 24”; 24” x 36”) can be printed through Document Solutions. For other student needs, we have negotiated a 20% discount on printing services at Staples Central City exclusively for SFU Students upon presentation of Student ID.
