SFU PSYC students have the opportunity to gain work experience in the field of Behavior Intervention. The list below is regularly updated with job postings we receive from BI teams and families of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and may be of particular interest to students pursuing coursework in developmental psychology.

Location: 

Location 1: Port Moody (Rocky Point) - you will be providing support at the student’s home.

Hours: Sessions will be 1.5-2 hours in length and held after school twice per week (between 3-6pm, days are flexible). Family is also looking for a 3rd session on the weekend (ideally in the morning). Please note that additional sessions will be available during the summertime (4-5 per week).

Location 2: Coquitlam (Town Center) - you will be providing support at the student’s home.

Sessions will be 1-2 hours in length and held twice per week on Mondays and Fridays. Timing is flexible and could be either in the afternoon from 3:00-5:00pm or in the morning from 9:00-10:00am.

Wage and training:

Compensation: Starts at $20-$25/hour depending on education and experience. Experience: No experience is necessary however prior experience, especially experience with kids, is definitely helpful. All training will be provided.

Description:

I’m looking for a couple of friendly, outgoing, and reliable individuals to work with 2 young students with autism. Program goals include academics, increasing flexibility, communication, social skills, emotional regulation, fine/gross motor skills, and self-help skills. This position is perfect for students looking for experience in teaching, psychology, Occupational Therapy (OT), counselling, and/or Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).

Note: All applicants must be able to attend a monthly team meeting, provide a one year commitment, and a clean criminal record check.

Description:

I am looking for a part-time Behaviour Interventionist (BI) or special needs Early Childhood Educator (ECE) to work with my complex ADHD 6 year old this summer. 8-12 hours per week over the summer, 4 hours per week on the weekend during the last month of school (June). My son is a bright, active kindergartener with advanced language skills (English, French, basic Arabic) and special interests in drawing and video games. The focus would be to work on appropriate social interactions, positive self-talk and self-control/impulse control in everyday settings. This would likely look like outings in the community such as visits to parks or playgrounds, science world, supermarkets/shopping centre, and turn-taking games at home. You would be guided by myself and the child’s therapist. Pay is $22-25 per hour depending on experience. Training/Wage: 
Child’s mother will train the candidate. BCBA from the child’s home team may come sometimes to follow up on strategies. Compensation is based on performance and experience.

Hours:
Thursdays in July from 10 am to noon.  Availability per hours from Thursdays to Saturdays. Times may vary but mostly 1 - 2 hr. in the morning or evening. Most of the time the schedule would be given a week in advance.

Required in my home in Surrey to help me with my 8-year-old child who has High Functioning Autism and ADHD. He loves sensory play and cars. I am at home and I would ask you to help me with my child and/or some light housekeeping. I can always welcome a student and can train for the tasks required.

Description: 
We are looking for an experienced BI to join our home team for a smart and happy student. These sessions occur in their home. The student is a 6 year old student who is a electronic wiz and loves to play with sensory toys and sing interaction songs with his teachers. Our program focuses on self-regulation skills, functional communication training, expressing his needs and language with AAC, etc.

We are looking for Bis to join 4 home teams with clients ranging from 18 months to 12 years old. You will be working under the supervision of Victoria Kan, BCBA and Heidi Wei, Junior behaviour consultant. 

During the session, you will support clients to develop  social, communication, motor and play skills. Training will be provided.
