I read your article, and what struck me was that there is little
sociological data about the lives of intellectuals – this
is something that has interested me for quite a while
(considering doing my thesis on the topic) – particularly
in disciplines that seem to have impenetrable social walls.
Economics and Philosophy are two disciplines steeped in these
intimidating social forces that repel and are almost predatory
or territorial when others try to enter the profession.
Have you ever heard of "Philosophy of intellectuals"? I have seen
a few sociological papers on the topic, but philosophers don't
seem to notice their social world – it is a very strange
phenomenon.
Anyway, I could write forever – I think your article is
extremely insightful.
