In 1997 and 1998 the members if the Nonlinear Circuits and Systems Technical Committee (NCAS TC) participated in major conferences and workshops, organized special sessions and courses, and edited four special issues of CAS related journals. We also created an automatic electronic mailing server for its members and guests, and maintained our WWW pages.
At the 1997 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS'97: June 9 - 12, 1997, Hong Kong) P. Kennedy and M. Ogorzalek organized a special session on ``Applications of Chaos in Communications,'' while at the European Circuit Theory and Design Conference (ECCTD'97: August 30 - September 3, 1997, Budapest, Hungary) two special sessions were devoted to nonlinear dynamics: ``Nonlinear analyst's tools for practical circuits and systems,'' organized by M. Ogorzalek, and ``Spread spectrum communications and chaos'' organized by P. Kennedy and G. Kolumban. The fifth international specialist workshop on Nonlinear Dynamics of Electronic Systems, NDES'97, was held from June 26 - 27, 1997, in Moscow, Russia. Beautiful Hilton Hawaiian Village, Hawaii, was the venue for the 1997 International Symposium on Nonlinear Theory and its Applications, (NOLTA'97: November 29 - December 3, 1997). More than 300 papers were presented in 58 sessions by over 330 participants from 26 countries.
In 1998, NCAS TC already supported the fifth IEEE International Workshop on Cellular Neural Networks, (CNNA'98: April 14-17, 1998, South Bank University, London, England), and ISCAS'98, which was held from May 31 - June 3, in Monterey, CA. The NCAS members will also participate in the thirteenth International Symposium on the Mathematical Theory of Networks and Systems (MTNS'98) that will take place in the School of Engineering, University of Padova, Italy, July 6-10, 1998. Building on the success of last year's workshop in Moscow, NDES'98 will be held in Budapest, Hungary, from July 16-18, 1998. For the past four years, this exciting meeting of mathematicians and engineers from Eastern and Western Europe, the US, and Japan, has been supported by the TCNCAS. This year, the workshop will last three days, with the first day devoted to tutorials on the ``state-of-the-art'' and ``open problems'' in applied nonlinear dynamics. Finally, NOLTA'98 will take place at LeRegent, Crans-Montana, Switzerland, from September 14-17, 1998.

Two special issues of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems were prepared in 1997. ``Chaos Synchronization, Control, and Applications,'' edited by P. Kennedy and M. Ogorzalek, appeared in October 1997 (Part I), and ``Advances in Nonlinear Electronic Circuits,'' edited by P. Kennedy and A. Rodriguez-Vazquez, is scheduled to appear in Fall 1998 (Part II). A special issue of the Japan IEICE Transactions on Fundamentals was devoted to nonlinear theory and its applications and to NOLTA'97. Guest Editors were M. Makino and T. Saito.
In 1998, the IEEE CAS will publish a Special Issue of the Transactions to honor the memory of Sidney Darlington. Guest Editors are E. Kuh and I. Sandberg. A special issue of the Japan IEICE Transactions on Fundamentals will be devoted to nonlinear theory and its applications and to NOLTA'98. Guest Editor is T. Kohda.
As part of the CAS society broad initiative for short courses, M. Green and Lj, Trajkovic will give a short course entitled ``Advanced Circuit Simulation Techniques for Analogue Designers'' in Phuket Island, Thailand, from November 30 - December 2, 1998 (WWW site: CAS courses).
We have created an automatic mailing system (majordomo list) for the NCAS Technical Committee members and guests. The list is private, can support geographically diverse membership, and the members can subscribe and un-subscribe via e-mail. It currently has over 50 subscribing members.
