         CHAOS SYNCHRONIZATION, CONTROL AND APPLICATIONS

                           October 1997

   In the last few years we observed a tremendous interest in the studies
of chaotic and complicated phenomena in circuits and systems. Numerous special
sessions at world-wide conferences and several special issues of journals
including the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems have been devoted to
the analysis of such phenomena in circuits and systems.
   With the discovery of specific synchronization approaches and development
of control concepts, chaos research has now reached the stage of successful
applications. We have seen in the last three years stunning examples
of applications from defibrillation, epilepsy control, stabilization of the
intensity of a laser beam, control of trajectories of spacecraft to control
of house-hold heating and refrigerators. Every month, journals are bringing
descriptions of new developments, novel ideas and applications.

The topics of this Special Issue include, but are not limited to
	* Chaos synchronization techniques for discrete- and continuous- time
	   systems
	* Chaos control concepts and algorithms
	* Synchronisation and control of hyperchaos
	* Synchronisation and control of spatiotemporal and neural systems
	* Electronic chaos controllers
	* Applications in biology and medicine
	* Applications in signal processing and transmission
	* Other applications (laser optics, power electronics, commercial
 	   applications etc.)
	* Targetting and applications
	* Advances in synchronization theory
