A short documentary made for Aaron Nelson-Moody (Splash) for the Bill Reid Gallery's Intangible exhibition from September 4th to December 10, 2017.
Programs used: Adobe (After Effects, Illustrator, Premiere), Audacity
The documentary was a two person project so my role was nearly the same as my partner's. We both had a hand in being a film editor, handing the rough cuts back and forth until we were satisfied with the film.
I was primarily in charge of the sound design which includes the interview dialogue, tool sound effects, and where the ambient music should be placed.
I was the interviewer for Splash so it makes sense that I would be the one who was most clear on what type of message should be conveyed to the audience from the answers he provided.
The documentary will explore the ideas and processes behind Splash's work to help visitors better understand what they are seeing in the exhibition.
Clients such as the museum curators, the artist and the teaching staff all have their own visions of a final product. Constraints are given so there are consistencies between everyone's perspectives. Splash is also a wood sculptor but the curators wanted a deeper focus on his repoussé. The documentary must be within 4 minutes where 4 minutes would already be considered quite long. Only the time constraint was told upfront. The documentary content constraint was only figured out after working through the first storyboard draft.
