Range of Human Hearing

Human hearing occurs in two dimensions:
frequency and   intensity.

In the frequency domain the range of human hearing is between approximately 20 to 20,000 Hz.  In the intensity domain there is roughly 120 dB dynamic range.

There is some variability according to sex with women typically having sensitivity to higher frequencies than men.

High frequency hearing is also progressively lost as we age.

The dynamic range of human hearing is approximately 120 decibels. Signals over 90 dB may cause permanent hearing damage.
