Sword-gun Weapon Design
Weapon Modeling/Texturing
Sword-gun is quite an interesting small project for me since the idea started from my past 2D drawing. The idea is simple, I want to create a large sword that can be utilized both as a dangerous melee weapon and also a formidable range weapon.
I started the project by simply looking through what greatsword looks like. I had a basic understanding of its size and style (since I drew it not long ago). However, I had to do research for its details. This includes its shape, its thickness, how it would turn into a gun, where is its chamber, etc. After having it sketched down, I started modeling within Maya.
After having the general shape finished, I went to ask my friends for their opinion about the sword. They said that it doesn't feel exaggerated enough, therefore, I extruded the sharp edge even more. Happy about the general shape of the sword body, I started doing the handles. As for the handle, I wanted to give it a futuristic vide, so I focused on creating sharpe edges by boolean it.

The next part is to convert it into a gun. For this section, I simply started by rotating the weapon around, seeing which side could fit the gun handle. For this section, I ended by creating sockets for barrel and chamber.
Lastly, for texturing, I imported the weapon into substance painter. I had a lot of fun playing around with height map of the scratches within this weapon. I also learned a lot of unique tips and tricks of the existing material (ex. iron has a pretty good pattern to make the weapon looks sharp).

Overall, the project took around 8 hours, I was definitely having a lot of fun with this small project as the weapon was part of my character design drawing.
