Role:
Synopsis Looking to test my skills and to gain team experience, I joined a SFU Club known as Team Phantom as a graphic designer a few months prior of them starting a business team. The club just began to cycle executives, so I became the Visual Media Lead shortly after joining. From there I have been working on Graphics for social media, documents for sponsors, html e-mails, merchandise, and a website. Team Phantom Team Phantom is a group of passionate students working together to create an electric race car to compete in SAE International a global student competition. Over 40 students tackle the issues necessary to build the car from scratch, including, raising the funds necessary for the parts and workspace. |

Focusing on our Instagram account I designed posts about the team's events, updates, and friendly gestures. Initial research between me and the Buisness team lead, found that Instagram posts revolve around new and fresh content to always grab attention in the limited time it shows on screen. Therfore, I never really stuck with the same design for each post, which gave me an extradorinary chance to explore heirarchy using Gestalt principles to give content the identity they need to be eye catching. |
|
My experimentation in heirarchy was important for official documents and posters which were no longer restricted by the 1:1 visual space ratio of Instagram posts. Documents such as a newsletter was e-mailed to sponsors during the COVID-19 pandemic, which focused on a more professional stance with more subtle heirarchy differences for our calm integrity. Designing letter sized posters, something needs to grab the eye so I stuck with big heirarchy differences to entice further reading after atracting attention from afar. |

Excited for what I can help for direct funding, I pushed for a chance at creating merchandise. I designed on the basis of giving our members and other SFU students a means of free advertisement. I want our members to take pride in wearing our team brand, while also being unique enough to warrant general SFU students to get as well. |
|
We eventually settled with enough funding and support to launch our first set of official merch! The designs kept to a simple theme as we wanted to maintain a level of professionalism. Except, for the tote bag. Here we thought we can be as expressive as can be. I created what you see on the right. |

WAnd of course another round of stickers. This time I used my 3D space skills to create more appealing mockups |

Sticking with the brand guidelines, I created a website for Team Phantom to display their team information that can be accessed through their various touchpoints. The art direction plays with the sense of youthful enthusiasim with the sharp but connected shapes to illustrate Team Phantom's eagerness to expand and explore, but at a pace where everyone is still able to work together. A snapshot of lightning. |
