Haifa harbour and the city below Mount Carmel. Across the bay is Acre, a very old historic city, and beyond that Lebanon. Being close to the Lebanon border (about 30 km) Haifa experienced a large number of rocket attacks during the war with Lebanon in August 2006 (five months before we arrived).
