Self-Portrait

Was made for a grade 12 Art course I took in high school, where we assigned to draw a self-portrait using a famous style.
Having an interest in both arts and graphic design, I decided to choose a style that can fit in both category, or at least have the elements of both. Typography design was my choice and I had no clue if it will work, but my strong motivation to discover the possibilities pushed me to try it. My teacher suggested making it more meaningful instead of choosing random words, so I chose proverbs and famous quotes that I believe in to represent my figure. Some proverbs and quotes have a message that fit with their location on the painting. For example, the quote inside the mouth says: “Silence holds many words.”
My project received a high acceptance from my teacher, Mr. David Gibson, who teaches at Grant Park High School in Winnipeg. And this is what he wrote:
This is a very mature project, at the high end of what I expect from my Grade 12’s. As usual, your work is exceptional.”
