Pixar Magazine Spreads

Tools used: Adobe Photoshop / Adobe InDesign
School Project: IAT 102 Graphic Design
Partners: Kyle Historillo and Tiphanie Lau
    Spring 2011

Goal: Designing magazine spreads that illustrate graphic design skills.

Process: We decided to design magazine spreads that targets young adults who are interested in animation and motion graphics. The selected fonts are TW Cen MT, Archer and Myriad Pro. These fonts are easy to read, modern and clean. We chose the complementary colors, orange and greenish blue. Orange is energetic and greenish blue is associated with serenity. I made one of the design concepts in InDesign and my partners produced the final one. At the beginning, the project lacked strong creative elements because we only relied on the use of texts and space relationships. However, my love for typography drawing inspired me to use the same method with sketches instead of texts. I found an online tutorial about typography drawing and then I started experimenting with Photoshop until I got the result that I and my teammates wanted.

Result: I had the opportunity to use my practical intelligence and experience to generate a new idea. At the beginning, my teammates were concerned about my ability to translate my idea into a finished design within one night, but they kept supporting me until I achieved my objective and I was able to finish it within few hours.
