Science Rendezvous @ SFU - Come Visit WWEST!
Science Rendezvous is the largest science festival in Canada that seeks to engage the public (and especially kids!) through interactive science activities, demonstrations, and laboratory experiences at various locations across Canada every year on the Saturday before Mother's Day. The 2017 event takes place in conjunction with International Astronomy Day, the Burnaby Festival of Learning, and Science Odyssey.
Science Odyssey is Canada's largest celebration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, featuring fun and inspiring experiences in museums, research centres, laboratories, and classrooms from coast to coast.
Powered by NSERC, Science Odyssey demonstrates how discoveries and innovations shape our daily lives and foster a strong science culture in Canada.
This year, Simon Fraser University is hosting 3 events on May 13th. Read on for information about each fun event:
WWEST's Demo of "Tune Twister"
Join us as we show off our Sound Engineering Software for Kids, "Tune Twister!" This experience will be available all day on May 13th. With the app, kids in grades 4-8 can learn about the science of sound by using the app to manipulate music tracks. With its dynamic interface, the app demonstrates how acoustics are affected depending on the digital effects that are applied to music. Kids will learn about electronic audio filters, waveforms, frequency, pitch and how speed impacts sound. Drop in any time!
