An Evening of Reconciliation: Keynote and Conversation with Chief Dr. Robert Joseph
On Thursday January 21st, SFU’s Vancity Office for Community Engagement, Reconciliation Canada, SFU Public Square, and the SFU Beedie School of Business co-presented a thoughtful and engaging evening with Chief Dr. Robert Joseph, Ambassador, Reconciliation Canada. This free and public event included a keynote from Chief Dr. Robert Joseph, followed by an informal reception.
A welcome address and prayer were presented by Sheryl Rivers, president of the Aboriginal Peoples’ Commission (BC) of the Liberal Party of Canada.
Following his keynote address, Chief Dr. Robert Joseph engaged in conversation with Waneek Horn-Miller, a Mohawk bear clan woman and mother, and one of Canada’s few Indigenous Olympians.
The conversation acknowledged that we are at a pivotal moment in Canadian history, and recognized the opportunity to find a new way forward, together. All community members were invited to join in this national movement towards reconciliation for Indigenous peoples and all Canadians.
