TRANSIENT RESPONSE

In electroacoustics, the ability of a device or component of a device to handle and faithfully reproduce sudden WAVEFORMs called TRANSIENTs.

The more sudden the transient, the broader the BANDWIDTH needed in the FREQUENCY RESPONSE of the device involved, as expressed by the LAW OF UNCERTAINTY. Since digital signals produced by DIGITAL RECORDING are band limited, the accurate reproduction of transient sounds is sometimes difficult.
