A "complex tone" is
simply a fundamental and some harmonics (which doesn't
really sound complex at all compared with environmental
sound!). On the other hand, a continuous or broad-band spectrum implies that there are a large (continuous) range of frequencies in the spectrum, such as noise. On the other hand, a "line spectrum" indicates the strength of each harmonic shown as a thin vertical line. This is clearly a theoretical spectrum, not one based on an actual analyzer since it implies infinite resolution. |
