Sociology MA Candidate Mariana Pinzon-Caicedo earns two CSA awards
Congratulations, Mariana!
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is excited to announce that Mariana Pinzon-Caicedo, an MA candidate in Sociology, has been awarded the Best Student Paper Award for 2023 in the Criminology and Law research cluster for her paper entitled "Victim's speech-acts in Transitional Justice Systems." In addition, she is also one of the recipients of the 2023 Congress Student Merit Award as endorsed by the Canadian Sociological Association (CSA).
"I feel very honored to have received these awards. I also feel thankful that Dr. Patton encouraged me to submit an abstract to present at the conference, I don't think I would have sent it otherwise. I am also grateful for Dr. Patton's and Dr. Willmott's support and advice writing the paper and preparing the presentation," says Pinzon-Caicedo.
Pinzon-Caicedo joined the MA program in the Spring of 2022. Prior to joining SFU as a student, she worked at the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank and the International Labour Organization, with positions both at headquarters and the field. Pinzon-Caicedo holds a MSc. in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a BA in Economics from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia. Pinzon-Caicedo has been accepted to enter the PhD program in the Fall of 2023 to work with Dr. Dany Lacombe and Dr. Kyle Willmott.
