COVID-19 vaccination clinics coming to SFU
To support students in getting vaccinated as quickly and easily as possible, SFU has partnered with the Fraser Health Authority to host at least 11 pop-up vaccination clinics at SFU’s Burnaby and Surrey campuses. Starting August 27, both domestic and international students, as well as anyone aged 12 and up living in B.C., can visit any of these clinics to receive their first or second dose of Health Canada approved COVID-19 vaccine.
The clinics are operating on a drop-in basis, with no appointments necessary to receive a free immunization. MSP or personal health coverage is also not required, which means students who have not yet received B.C. health documentation are still eligible. For a full list of dates and times visit the pop-up vaccination clinic website. The list will be updated if additional clinic dates or locations are added.
For those living, studying or working at SFU’s Vancouver campus, a vaccination clinic continues to operate at the Vancouver Convention Centre, which is just a five-minute walk from Harbour Centre. Vancouver Coastal Health will also be offering a number of drop-in clinics throughout Vancouver. For more information on clinic locations or to book an appointment, visit the VCH website.
Starting August 30, Nester’s pharmacy in UniverCity will also be providing mRNA vaccines to anyone 12 and up – providing an alternative option for anyone unable to attend a Burnaby campus clinic.
As the fall approaches, getting vaccinated remains the most important thing each of us can to do protect ourselves and those around us. This remains particularly true as we continue to see strong evidence that the vaccines are safe and effective at preventing infection and severe illness.
With the recent announcement by the B.C. government that proof of vaccination will soon be required to participate in many non-essential activities, the reasons to get vaccinated have never been greater.
Supporting access to vaccination is just one of the many steps SFU is taking to ensure a safe return to in-person activities this fall. Other measures include improving ventilation, cleaning, encouraging hand hygiene, and continuing to work closely with our health authority partners to inform decisions on how to best keep the community safe.
We look forward to seeing more students, faculty and staff on campus this fall!
