Fire & flood season: SFU experts available

Southern BC’s ‘drier than normal’ spring is prompting concerns of rising forest fire risk, according to the BC Wildfire Services, with a crucial need for rainfall in the coming weeks to help mitigate fire risk. During the month of May, wildfires have already been reported in various regions of B.C. and across the country. 

Meanwhile, as flood risks from snow-packs in B.C. regions are decreasing and flooding potential has stabilized, some northern regions in recent days have been under evacuation orders and alerts, while a high streamflow advisory for the Fraser River remains in effect.
