SFU expert available on Supreme Court’s Trans Mountain Pipeline decision

In a setback for the B.C. government, the Supreme Court of Canada today dismissed the province’s appeal against a lower court decision that had set aside provincial legislation designed to block the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project.

The court’s decision removes one of the remaining obstacles for the long-delayed pipeline project. Its proposed construction has been marked by fierce opposition from B.C. Premier John Horgan’s government.

If built, the pipeline would transport nearly a million barrels of oil from Alberta to the B.C. coast each day for export to Asian markets.
