Overview

The SAS External File class defines an object-oriented interface to SAS external files. A SAS External File object corresponds to either an external file or a directory and contains information, including its name, its associated pathname, its type, and an engine. If the SAS External File object type is a directory, the object also has a list of members. Each item in the list of members of a SAS External File object describes a directory member (either a file or another directory).
