Terry Fox statue,
Bronze, 9.5 feet (2.9m), by Stephen Harman
Academic Quadrangle, Simon Fraser University
SFU’s most famous student began his Marathon of Hope in 1980, after losing
a leg to cancer. The disease ended his cross-country run—and his life—too
soon, but his vision lives: the Terry
Fox Foundation has raised more than $270 million for cancer research.
On September 19, 2001—SFU’s first annual Terry
Fox Day—Betty Fox unveiled a bronze sculpture of her son, a gallant
athlete and humanitarian, and an inspiration to all future SFU students.
