This summer, I worked as a policy analyst with the Policy & Legislation Branch at Emergency Management BC (EMBC). EMBC is guided by four key pillars: managing emergencies through effective mitigation, preparation, response and recovery. At the provincial level, emergency management consists of guiding legislation, regulation and policy, as well as provincial planning and partnering with Indigenous leadership. The Policy & Legislation branch works towards modernizing legislation and regulation through complex analysis and engagement with key partners.
I worked on a multitude of enlightening projects, such as: developing briefing notes to support executive teams with modernization of legislation and regulatory reforms, presenting these notes and policy decisions at Executive and Ministerial levels, leading discussions during internal/external stakeholder meetings, communicating key updates to Indigenous partners, conducting cross-jurisdictional scans and correspondence, as well as generating feasible solutions for complex issues.
My co-op has been a highlight of the MPP program; I have enhanced my professional development more than I could have imagined. I’m grateful to be continuing my work with EMBC this Fall, and moving forward in the public sphere with confidence.
