Current role: Leader, Climate Action & Sustainability at Technical Safety BC
With a Bachelor's degree double majoring in Psychology and Environmental Studies, SFU's MPP program was the perfect way for me to gain the skills I needed to apply my knowledge and passion for behaviour change and climate action. The program has an excellent framework that teaches students to enable positive change like climate action and social justice through policy by focusing on practical skills such as writing, statistics, research, and policy analysis. The three most valuable aspects of the program for me were the capstone project, which allowed me to deeply investigate BC's groundwater sustainability policy landscape; the framework for policy analysis that included assessment of trade-offs to support decision making; and collaborative projects like the BC Priorities Project, which gave me experience working with a team on a real-world problem. MPP set me up well for my current role leading climate action work for a province-wide safety regulator, and I enjoy continuing to connect with the large network of alumni, as well as current students and faculty, all dedicated to making good public policy.
