Community Consultation: Donations (GP 03) Review

Dear University Community,

Policy GP 03, “Donations,” is under the authority of the VP Advancement and Alumni Engagement (VPAAE) and governs the ethical, transparent, and effective management of donations to the university. This policy ensures that all contributions align with the institution's mission, values, and strategic priorities while complying with legal and regulatory requirements.

Amendments are being proposed to GP 03 to reflect the current operating model in Advancement and Alumni Engagement, and to ensure that all aspects of future campaign planning are covered in the policy.

Amendments to policy GP 03 include most notably the following:

  1. clarifying the gift acceptance criteria including clarity regarding what kind of gifts are accepted, increasing the efficiency of the intake process;
  2. gift rejection criteria;
  3. changing the reporting responsibilities significantly to simplify the reporting process and keep the accountability in place, also addressing some of the sustainability issues;
  4. renaming GP 03 the “Fundraising and Donations” policy to reflect the broad scope of the activities under the VP AAE portfolio; and
  5. a general review of the document, aligning with the current operating model and adding a mandatory review milestone in the future
