IAT 391 PROJECTS BY WEEK

1. Tiber Island and the Republican Period of Rome open link

The focus of our research for this week is about the beginnings of Rome, the city before the Empire. Aside from the Myth of Romulus and Remus, which tells the story of how the city was founded, we also look into the early influences of Rome from the Latins, the Greeks, and the Etruscans. Lastly are the impressive architecture and engineering of bridges and monuments.

2. The Roman Empire + The Rome of Early Christians open link

The Roman Empire, the great emperors, the monuments and sculptures that built the grandeur of their reign are the main emphasis of our study. Furthermore, discussed are the social events and activities the Romans enjoyed at the time. This period also include the establishment of the lives of the early Christians of the city.

3. The Renaissance in Rome + The Papal Cityopen link

Rome is now officially united with the Kingdom of Italy. Master sculptors, painters and architects showcase their profound knowledge of Greek and Roman influences through their inspiring works of high art. Additional topics pertain to a few places outside the city of Rome that are worth a visit due to their rich historical content.

4. The Baroque in Rome + New Capital of Italia open link

The culture is flourishing, injected by ideas such as Rationalism and Fascism. Contemporary architecture and award winning cinematographic pieces present a new life to the city, fueled by magnificent fountains that flow constantly throughout Rome.
