PhD Student, Simon Fraser University
Aynur Kadir is an interdisciplinary scholar, ethnographic film maker and doctoral researcher at the Making Culture Lab, Simon Fraser University. She works with the Uyghur community in northwest China.
As a media anthropologist, she is interested in using digital media for the research, preservation, management, interpretation, and representation of cultural heritage. Her research involves designing an applied digital archiving prototype to examine how digital technology might be used to transform institutional cultures, methods, and relationships with audiences. She focuses on using digital technology to archive Uyghur intangible cultural heritage and making this knowledge available not only to scholars and the general public, but also to Indigenous people themselves, so that future generations might be enriched by this heritage. As an Indigenous scholar herself, she wants to make a worthwhile contribution to safeguard intangible cultural heritages by means of modern technology.
