San Youth Activist
Jobe Gabototwe is a San youth activist from the rural village of Kedia in central Botswana. Jobe completed a year-long curatorial program in Cultural Heritage Practice at the !Khwa ttu San Culture & Education Centre in South Africa. Previously, he was an intern at the Iziko South African Museum where he worked with Sven Ouzman, co-chair of the Commodifications of Cultural Heritage Working Group, in an unprecedented collaboration on archaeology and representation between San and members of a national museum. Jobe is keen to work with scholars and other Indigenous communities on issues of intellectual property and on ways to protect cultural heritage. Jobe is also closely involved in providing opportunities for other San youth through !Khwa ttu and in the political-scape of southern Africa, including organizing a San youth caucus.
