Trump, China, and the International Relations of the Global South: Lessons from South America

Professor Leslie Elliott Armijo will discuss her recent book, South American Policy Regionalism. The work uses Latin American cases to analyze how countries of the global South cooperate internationally (or fail to do so) in a complex political environment to address joint policy problems such as building cross-border heavy infrastructure, regulating migration, or fighting pandemics.

Speaker Bio

Speaker: Leslie Elliott Armijo, Ph.D. holds research affiliations with Simon Fraser University (SIS) and Boston University (GDP Center) and is an expert in the international relations of the global South, especially Latin America and the BRICS countries.

Discussant: Ricardo Arredondo Ph.D. is Adjunct Professor at Simon Fraser University (SIS) and a Professor of Global Governance and International Organizations at the Universities of Belgrano (UB) and Buenos Aires (UBA). He is a career diplomat and serves as Consul General of Argentina in Vancouver.

Discussant: Kristen Hopewell is Professor and Canada Research Chair in Global Policy in the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs and Director of the Liu Institute for Global Issues at the University of British Columbia.
